Game Scene - Week 2 Progress Post

Liam O'Hare

I've gathered some new reference for this project and started using them to help make building tiles, which is what I focused on this week.

After gathering some new reference I started making tiles to help build my building. The reference helped me get an idea for other materials I can use on my building. It helped me find good ideas for windows and roofing. I put together some walls, one with a window, and various door pieces. I also made some corners but didn't end up using the inverted corner. I still have it in case I want to use it. Behind the tiles is the basic setting of the building. The ones in the front are the pieces I will use to build the building.

After that I had to unwrap these pieces, I purposely used less polygons so it would run well in Unity since this will be used (or would be used) for a game. All of the building pieces share one UV.

After that I imported the FBXs into Substance Painter to add textures. I used various wood textures on different parts. I have five different wood materials, one for pillars, one for the walls, one for smaller pillars, and two for the wood logs. I also have mud on the roof, just like the original reference from the last post, and glass on the window. There will be grass added to the roof in unity. The end product ended up looking great, I really like how it turned out.

I will be bringing these textures over to unity later, next I will be building the building in Maya and making some other assets to go along with it. Some issues that I had during this process was texturing in Substance. Some materials were acting up and messing up the materials on other pieces, the issue had to do with projection. After some work, I decided to use other materials as it seemed that one material was messed up. I also found that some tiles weren't the correct scale and size to properly tile, so I had to restart a few times to make sure everything lined up properly.
