Game Scene Final Project Post

Liam O'Hare

This is the final post for our game scene assignment. We were assigned to build a scene using reference from one of three games, we chose to make a scene for Dragon Age. We were assigned groups and me, Josh, and Usume had to work together to build a scene in Maya, texture it in Substance Painter, and then bring it over to Unity to have a working game demo. We wanted to build a tight knit community of villagers, hardworking and living simple lives. We have some nice buildings standing with each other in a scene in Unity. You can walk around the scene and enjoy our models we built. Some houses are brought up a level by stone foundations adding some vertical elements to this village, but this village works the best because we all worked together to produce a cohesive scene.

This is the sawmill I made for the scene.

This is Josh's building he built, with a more man-made foundation.

Finally, Usume built this giant windmill, completing the village.

This project had a few problems. I had to built many versions of my modular pieces because I continued to mess their size up. The biggest solution was testing modular pieces before exporting and texturing them. If I had known this earlier I would have saved a lot of time. I also made a few ID map mistakes in Substance Material, which were good to make because now I know how to avoid those problems for next time. I accidentally had too many UV maps for the scene, where the project only allowed for two UV maps per person.

In terms of time management I never found myself falling behind, I think I managed my time well for this project. Next time I would like to aim higher and do some more interesting elements on my building and see how I manage my time then.
