Book Final Project Post

Liam O'Hare

The final project in this class is a Stylized 3D book that we will sculpt and concept ourselves. This project will likely be the most difficult as it cumulates all of our gathered skills from the class into one assignment where we will do it all ourselves with no tutorials. I enjoy projects like these, I am pretty good at managing things myself at this point. I don't like following tutorials for assignments, even though I learn a lot. I prefer figuring things out myself along the way, so I'm glad I can finally attack a project how I feel I should.

I will start with modeling a book based off of this reference I found:

I like the thick and detailed looks of these books and their bindings. I plan for the pages to be neat and not too destroyed. I also want to make the book cover out of maroon leather. Then I will leave room on the front for a metal badge of a skull with horns. I think this will draw the most attention to the book. I have made concept art for this badge.

I will likely sculpt this design in ZBrush and then retopo it in Maya afterwards. It will have a metallic texture applied to it.

Finally I plan to add some metal buckles and bumpers around the books edges so that metal isn't only present on this badge. This hopefully will tie the entire book together.
